The Move Maker is a module-based play system designed for social and physical play at home – or outdoors. The module-based design makes it ideal to fit any home environment. The game encourages social and physical play, building on bodily puzzles as the core mechanic. Move Maker’s bodily puzzles are highly engaging and lead to increased bodily awareness and social collaboration. It features several mini-games, including a design-your-own game mode.

The challenge: 10 working days before the defence, the candidate is given a topic outside the scope of the doctoral thesis but within the overall field of study.
The topic of the trial lecture was: The Design of Games and Playful Experiences for Nonhuman Creatures.

Crazy Soccer Physics on Trampoline – Exploring swapping interactive controls from keypresses to jumping on a trampoline

How does it affect the experience when we change the game controls of keyboard key presses to jumps on a trampoline?

Crazy Soccer Physics put on trampolines. Control the crazily moving avatars by jumping on a trampoline and see how many goals you can score – or rather, who ends up in the goal. Instead of boring keypresses, we equipped a trampoline with motion sensors measuring the strength of the players’ jumps. The stronger a jump, the longer a key press, resulting in their avatar jumping high for a long time.

The Annoying Chair – forced to change position regulary (as in “the next position is always the. better”))

The Annoying Chair is a gentle and playful way of nudging people to change posture while sitting regularly.
Sedentary work is increasing – and with it, health issues such as cardiovascular diseases and musculoskeletal disorders arise.

The annoying chair gently forces the person to change posture by moving balls around inside, creating discomfort (and rewarding comfort).
