The Annoying Chair

The Annoying Chair is a gentle and playful way of nudging people to regularly change posture while sitting.

Demo

Sedentary work is increasing – and with it health issues such as cardiovascular diseases and musculoskeletal disorders arise.

The annoying chair gently forces the person to change posture by moving balls around inside creating discomfort (and rewarding comfort). By ensuring to regularly change posture the benefits are:

Varying the use of different muscles

Changes movement behaviour

Increase blood flow.

The annoying chair is a persuasive playful technology using gentle nudging and physical touch to encourage a varied movement culture within sedentary activities.

Conclusion:

The annoying chair is an alternative to assure regular posture changes

It is a prototype developed by Joshua and me at RMIT Summer School in Playful Interaction.
